The Higher Education Authority is the statutory planning and policy development body for higher education and research in Ireland. The HEA has wide advisory powers throughout the third-level education sector. In addition, it is the funding authority for the universities, institutes of technology and a number of designated higher education institutions.

MATIMOP – THE ISRAELI INDUSTRY CENTER FOR R&D (ISERD)

ISERD is an inter-ministerial nonprofit directorate which aims to promote joint Israeli-EU R&D ventures within the EU’s R&D Framework Program.

Playing a vital role in future policy and collaborative efforts concerning RTD programs between the EU and Israel, ISERD coordinates the activities of Israel’s delegates to the various program committees managing the Framework Programme. ISERD representatives have also been operating as the Israeli National Contact Points since the 4th Framework Program.

GSRT (GR)Greece

The General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT)

The General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) is the main policy maker and programme owner for the R&D system in Greece. GSRT’s policy is implemented through operational programmes, the current one having a duration of six years (2007-2013). Through its programmes, it supports the research activities of both the country’s scientific research institutes and those of its productive industry, focussing on areas that are important for the national economy and for the improvement of the quality of life.

Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC)

The JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) is a committee of the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). HEFCE acts, through the JISC, on behalf of all of the higher and further education funding bodies in the UK, including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The UK Research Councils, through the Science and Technology Funding Council (STFC), are associate members of the JISC.

SURF is the collaborative organisation for higher education institutions and research institutes aimed at breakthrough innovations in ICT in the Netherlands. SURF comprises of SURFfoundation, SURFnet and SURFdiensten (SURFservices). The relevant division for this ERA-NET, SURFfoundation initiates, guides and stimulates ICT innovation through sharing knowledge and partnerships in all areas SURF covers.

FCT (PT)Portugal

Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)
The Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia is the main Portugal funding agency for research with a status of a public organisation with administrative and financial autonomy, under the aegis of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES). FCT covers all fields of science, from natural sciences to humanities, normally in a responsive mode, aiming at capability enhancement and research excellence. This general support to the development of the S&T system is complemented with the promotion of research in public policies domains, through thematic programmes launched in cooperation with other public organisations.

Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS)

The Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) is the institution under the authority of the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES). The main tasks of the LAS are the favouring research in the basic and applied sciences, especially the interdisciplinary research; promoting studies in Latvian history, culture and the development of the Latvian language; active participation in the establishing Latvian science policy and consultation of the Government on scientific issues; care about publishing of scientific literature, organisation of congresses, conferences, discussions, and competitions, popularization of scientific achievements and history of Latvian sciences; maintenance of international contacts of Latvian scientists; protection, maintenance, and perfection of research ethics, discussion principles, and traditions.

MICINN (ES)Spain

Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN)

MICINN is in charge of funding basic and applied research. The National Program 2008-2011 also funds actions to support the participation of Spanish researchers in international programs, organization of conferences and the creation of thematic networks.

CSC (FI)Finland

IT Center for Science Ltd (CSC)

CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd provides e-infrastructure services and competence for universities, research institutes and other organizations of the Finnish research and innovation system. This task is of core importance for science in Finland. CSC is also prominently involved in Nordic and European cooperation to develop information networks, scientific computing and the use of data. CSC is a limited company with non-profit model. The shares are fully owned by Finnish state, and governed by the Finnish Ministry of Education.

National Information Infrastructure Development Institute (NIIFI)
NIIF Institute, or NIIFI, the National Information Infrastructure Development Institute) is the organisation responsible for developing and operating the Hungarian e-Infrastructure for science and education. That e-Infrastructure is based on the academic and research network and its services, and comprising such components of the e-Infrastructure as supercomputing facilities, grid applications, digital repositories/archives, collaboration tools etc.
